I Need To Embrace Me November 14, 2007

Today is a fabulous day.  I have come to realize having my disability is a fabulous thing. I get a better understanding about disabilities and am able to prove to people disabilities are not a scary thing and yes it is fine to befriend someone with one.

I would be able to hide my disability and no one would ever know.  And I have been living that way for the last couple years, because honestly it is not anyones business and I do not want people to think differently of me.  Though I am beginning to understand that having a disability is not something I should be hiding because it is me.

If I hide my disability that would be similar to hiding my skin color or my religion because all of these are extremely important.  My disability is a part of me and yes it is new to me I still have to embrace it and love it because to be able to be confident I need to love every part of me.

It comes to a point, when I need to realize I am me.  And I am lucky because I am able to fight whatever tension may come with the person who I am.  I am excited for today, because I get to meet an activist of the name, LeDerick Horn, who is not only a person with a disability but a poet.  He is trying to create understanding and create a base where people can learn about issues.  I am extremely excited to meet him because he is a person who will be beneficial for me to meet.

Well anyways I am off to BSU then another meeting and thennnnnnnn LEDERICK!!!!!

Education: October 29, 2007

I am beginning to wonder if education is practical. I have a 99.5 overall grade in my math class, and yes obviously it feels good, but I am beginning to question if it is practical that I am having no difficulties in a classroom experience. I am not really learning in that class. As of now, I am averaging an Aish in most of my classes, and I am happy, but I’d rather be having more of a struggle. I am beginning to loose interest just because I keep doing the same thing. Education is repetitive and it is somewhat frustrating.

But anyways… Red Sox one, baseball is finished so MORE FOOTBALL. yayyy… I am extremely excited.

My Experience At The University: October 26, 2007

As this being my first year, I have had a lot of new experiences.  I have made many mistakes, but I guess they haven’t effected me too extremely yet.

 Mistake #1

Well walking into Conn Hall, I always use the door that does not open.  Yes, I am the nerd that takes twenty minutes to open the door. But the outcome, I get a little bit of exercise prior to eating :)

Mistake #2

Yes, I gave an upperclassmen football player my number mistaking him with my friend from my health class. Yes, I understand the stereotypical football player would not respect me.  But the outcome, I have a new friend who has a kitchen in his room (Mac&Cheese) and I get to watch football with another Steelers fan :)

Mistake #3

Yes, because of the necessary use of the heat in my residence hall, I stay leaving the building with white tees, sweatpants, and flip flops. Yes, I am the college student looking a hot mess and I am freezing my booty off.  But the outcome, no longer do nasty guys talk to me and I am starting an exercise plan of speed walking :)

BUT…. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF GOOD THINGS!

All my professors know my first and last name.  I have A quality work in my Composition class and my teacher enjoys my enthusiasm in the class.  My FYE teacher (the head of philosophy// biggest ego ever) told me I am one of the best students he has come by and I have the highest grade in the class.  Health, out of 40ish students I am the only student that my teacher can pronounce my name accurately, and yes, we have ate at conn hall together.  And Math, well, let me tell youI have an extremely high average. And Anthropology, I am the only student who has not missed a class, and one day I was the only student for the first 15 minutes, no lie and that has 35 students in it.

Besides the relationships with my teachers, I have met a lot of people.  Working on the networking :)  It is fabulous. I know more people then many upperclassmen.  I am involved in Hall Council, Secretary Beachy, (Papa I’m gonna be a politician one day).  Involved in BSU, yes it is the Black Student club, but I was asked by the Vice President to join because of my views, and happen to be well respected by everyone in the club, and being one of 3 white students, I am recognizable.

I have been the only freshman to not have one lick of alcohol, and to do my laundry weekly. Maybe I am not living up to the college experience, but I am happy this way…

Just wanted to give an update of my experience.

The Megan Williams Topic: October 26, 2007

First of all, I do not know how informed people are about the topic, but about a month ago, a women named Megan Williams was raped and tortured for approximately 6 days. When she was found, it took over a week before people outside of the case heard of the crime, and when I learned of what happened it was two weeks after the fact. I don’t understand how the media did not cover it, and I asked many people if they had heard students, professors, and random people had no idea, so now I wonder has the case been covered?

Williams is a 20 year old black women and was kidnapped by six Caucasians (3 women, 3 men) in West Virginia. The ages of the people involved were 20-48. Williams was sexually abused, kicked, punched, force to eat rat and dog feces, stabbed in the left leg, and choked with a phone cord.

The six people all had previously been convicted of crimes previously. The six individuals have been accuse of 108 different crimes combined and one had already had been charged with first-degree murder. Although she [Frankie Brewster] pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.criminals.jpgThe Criminals Involved (look crazy)

Many people believe that the crime was not covered in the media because of race. I agree the crime was performed because of racism, but I am not positive if the reasons it was not covered because of her race. I wonder if the crime was well covered because the government felt responsible for the issue. Obviously, each individual involved showed criminal behavior. They average 17 crimes per individual. And at the same time I bring the question “Would a lower class Caucasian citizen be well covered if it happened to them?” I feel as though if a child of a middle-high class black citizen would have been well covered. I don’t know if social class is involved. I am not aborting the idea that her race affected the coverage, but I am wondering if other aspects would also be an effect.

Its just some different questions I am asking.

But on a totally differently side, I would like to add… I took a math test today, and I feel as though I got every question right and there was extra credit so I’m feeling a grade higher than 100 :)

Well, thank you for reading.

Joining The Blog World October 26, 2007

Hello All!

Like most younger children I am copying my older sister :) I am beginning to write in a blog, because I have been writing in a beautiful composition book every night about different ideas I have about the news, cases, and anything else. I have decided, no one is going to read those little books, so why not put my ideas out in cyber world.

My ideas are mainly from the organization I joined, which somewhat counteracts the common view point of other members but I believe as though my ideas are thoughtful, so if you find a topic boring, skip it. Because I would!

But other blogs will most likely be about my exciting life, which isn’t too exciting. But anyways… thank you for reading!
